Updating the Berger Picard Breed Standard

CURRENT VERSUS PROPOSED BREED STANDARD
Berger Picard Club Canada has been working for more than a year with the Canadian Kennel Club to update the Berger Picard's current breed standard. The breed standard registered with the CKC dates back to 1964 and was written for the French breed club. Important aspects of a Berger Picards description are missing to the current breed standard, such as a description of the temperament of the breed as well as his origin and purpose .

The members of the BPCC have voted in favor of the proposed breed standard with a majority of 88% on December 2021.  The next step of the breed standard amendment process is to inform all CKC members and give them a chance to comment on the proposed changes. Comments can be made on the Canadian Kennel Club website from the 1st to the 31st of March, 2021. Once this delay passed the Canadian Kennel Club will have in hand all documents needed to render their final decision.

The slide shows below will allow everyone to evaluate the current versus the proposed breed standard and learn more on our amazing breed. We hope the information contained in these documents help you understand  how much we are fond of the Berger Picard and a community entirely devoted to this breeds preservation.

Many thanks to all who have offered photos of their dogs to make this document a visual incursion in the Berger Picard's world
